Custom WordPress Web Design
Architect and "Houseologists " Eva Byrne has a very successful website and Blog with thousands of articles used as a resource for inspiration by home owners all over Ireland. A frequent guest of day-time TV Eva's website gets pretty busy however the cms had not been updated for about 10 years. It was using a very early version of wordpress a version that the hackers forgot and by the looks of it some plugins had forgot too. The first port of call was to update the wordpress version and theme. After a short conversation we had a outline of what it would look like and work. It was great working with an Architect. There was little fuss - she knew what she wanted and laid the design rules out clearly so it was a very quick design process. Gap Arts Festival Logo 2016
This years Gap Arts Festival Logo was inspired by an German Artsist called Peter Kogler . I came across his exhibition in Brussels by accident and was amazed by how his simple line drawing full-room installation could alter space. I suppose its obvious if you think about it but Kogler really explored it deeply and has transformed all types of spaces into fun and interesting places. At first the idea was to somehow create a line drawing like Kogler giving a 3D effect to the GAP Arts Festival program - but I soon found out that the same effect would be lost on smaller media and would be hard to create a logo that would have impact. However exploring his online gallery I found a set of black/white building projections which created interesting geometric shapes. One shot stood out in particular as I could see it working on a Program Cover and the colours were taken from another installation he did exploring the brain where he use really bright colours - I mashed the 2 together to created the logo and program and I'm very happy with the result. Logo Design Process
The mysterious process of designing a logo from scratch can sometimes be obscured by the appearance of a perfectly formed finished design that looks like it came out of a package. In actual fact it can take a quite a while and quite a number of concepts and developments to achieve. Lets take a look at the process : Stage one : Concept Exploration After a discussion with the client we begin to develop the initial ideas with some development and use of preferred colours. [gallery columns="4" link="file" ids="1072,1079,1080,1076,1077,1078,1074,1075"] Stage two : Concept Development Taking the concepts and developing one or two ideas a step further . [gallery link="file" ids="1082,1081"] Stage three: Font Exploration Deciding which font might best suit your business is an import step - and can sometimes take a delicate balance. Stage four: Final Development Exploring the final design in different environments with different background colours Stage five: Final Design Last step is to assemble the final design and deliver it as a package with guidelines on how the logo should be displayed in different environments explored in previous step.
Cycling Club Logo Design
I love getting projects in with a limited brief. Sometimes working within tight specifications can limited the initial creativity where good ideas come from. The initial brief suggested using cogs and whatever else I come up with. After a little bit of research and a page or 2 of sketches one logo stood out for me and I was glad it stood out for the customer too, a couple more hours of development and the logo was finished.
Customised Artwork / Illustration for Rout 66 in Gorey
This Design transforms the main street of the thriving Irish town of Gorey into a sleepy town on the iconic U.S. highway Route 66 . A very early Morning Photograph (5am) captures the sunrise effect needed to blend Gorey into the Route 66 Backdrop. The vintage cars are textured and blended to create an image that requires a "second take" to realise its actually Gorey main street and not a real Route 66 town.
Logo Developed using Facebook
We love this time of the year because its Festival Season and we get to work on cool projects like The Gap Arts Festival Logo, Posters , Flyers, Booklet and Website. This years logo was developed online using Facebook. I posted the latest designs and then made changes based on Feedback from comments. Of course I had the final word but sometimes its more fun to work with other peoples ideas. The polygonal shape is formed from an array of equilateral triangles arranged to create a G in the negative space. The main issue on "Facebook commenters" was with the colours . Some people opting for the “Wexford” colours of Purple and Gold and some liking a range of tones from one colour such as green or Blue, which although looks nice, is a bit too serious. The final result has been a hit ! Many siteing the rainbow effect as topical for the most recent gay pride campaigns throughout the world. However the rainbow flag has many forms and is used as a symbol of Peace and is used as the “international co-operative movement” flag and also represents the legacy of the Inca Empire and other Andean movements. In the end we opted for rainbow tones to represent the many different facets of the arts festival, which is a mix of family friendly fun and top level performances from professional productions, and the Wexford Colours worked well in the main title, so why not. You can see the development at the bottom of the page. Check out : http://gapartsfestival.com/ Logo Development [gallery columns="9" ids="803,804,805,806,807,808,809,810,811" orderby="rand"]

Free Vector Triskel
I'm working on a quick logo project but the main elements is a Brittany Celtic Spiral or Triskel. The logo needs to be a vector graphic and so I did a quick search for Vector Triskel and found very little of any use or extremely expensive options. So instead I spent 10 minutes drawing up one myself and so I thought I'd make it available to download for free download here. CS6 .ai .eps .pdf Enjoy.

infographics When it comes to information graphics, it should always be data and information first, and then you design around that. For that to happen, you have to learn more about data — how to work with it, where it comes from, and what it represents in the real world. Data can be beautiful when you realize the latter, and when you do, you won’t have to work so hard to catch the eyes of readers, because the story behind the numbers and spreadsheets will shine through.
